A Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Maison Brotte, blending 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. Grapes come from sustainably farmed vines, with disbudding, leaf thinning and green pruning to keep yields low, and everything is picked by hand. Around 40,000 bottles are made each year.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance: dark ruby with slightly purplish tints.
  • Nose: fresh, intense and fine, with red fruit, black fruit and liquorice. With age it moves towards cherries in brandy, strawberry jam, truffles, undergrowth, black olives and spice.
  • Palate: fresh, concentrated and soft, with black cherries and garrigue scrubland. With age it gains breadth, black cherry jam, truffles, liquorice and undergrowth, and a lovely length.

Winemaking

Destemmed, fermented at 26°C with extraction by rack and return, then macerated for 4 weeks. The Syrah is aged in French oak barrels and the Grenache in 100-year-old foudres and concrete tanks. Bottled after 12 months of ageing and filtration.
